Independent intelligence for Africa’s decision-makers
Editorial policy

Independence is not a slogan. It is an operating discipline.

APL distinguishes verified fact, attributed reporting and independent analysis. Commercial relationships do not determine editorial conclusions.

Editorial standard

What readers can rely on.

Every material claim should be traceable, time-stamped and presented with appropriate confidence.

Independence

Absolute editorial control

Advertisers, partners, clients, sources and recruitment mandates do not receive approval rights over APL findings.

Evidence

Strict source hierarchy

Primary documents, filings, procurement records, operator disclosures and direct confirmations take precedence over aggregation.

Clarity

Fact–analysis separation

Verified information and APL interpretation are labelled separately to protect reader trust.

Accountability

Material corrections

Meaningful errors are corrected promptly and transparently rather than quietly rewritten.

Disclosure

Conflict visibility

Relevant commercial, advisory or recruitment relationships are disclosed where they may affect perception.

Integrity

No pay-to-praise coverage

Payment does not buy favourable analysis, inclusion, ranking or suppression of material risk.

Verification workflow

From source to published intelligence.

01

Identify the claim

Define exactly what changed: commitment, financing, procurement, award, mobilisation, delivery or operation.

02

Verify the evidence

Check dates, counterparties, values, scope, geography and source authority.

03

Assign confidence

Use evidence strength and source consistency—not editorial enthusiasm—to determine confidence.

04

Separate analysis

State clearly where APL is interpreting commercial consequence or future trajectory.

05

Record the proof point

Define the next event that would confirm, delay or contradict the current project position.

06

Update the ledger

Time-stamp material changes so readers can see the project’s current verified state.

Source discipline

A claim is only as strong as the evidence behind it.

Primary evidence

APL prioritises contracts, filings, financing documents, procurement notices, official records, regulator material and direct confirmations.

Attributed reporting

Credible independent reporting may support and contextualise a signal but is not treated as equivalent to a primary document.

Unconfirmed information

Rumour, promotional language and unsupported claims are not published as established fact. Unknown or undisclosed information is identified rather than estimated.

Corrections

The record must remain trustworthy.

APL corrects material factual errors promptly. Significant changes should include an updated verification date or correction note. Minor copy edits that do not change meaning may be made without a formal notice.

Commercial firewall

Paid work remains separate from editorial judgment.

APL may provide membership, research, recruitment, advisory, partnership or sponsored services. Those relationships do not guarantee positive coverage or suppress relevant reporting. A material relationship connected to a published subject should be disclosed.

Accountability

Challenge the record with evidence.

Corrections, source material and editorial questions may be sent to [email protected].

Editorial promise

Credibility is the product.

APL’s institutional value depends on restraint, evidence, independence and transparent uncertainty. The publication will not trade those standards for volume or convenience.
